Ga. man sues La. authorities over facial recognition technology that led to wrongful arrest – WABE

Randal “Quran” Reid, 29, of Atlanta, blames flawed facial recognition technology for linking him to a crime in Louisiana – a state he says he’s never been to.

In November 2022, Reid was arrested in DeKalb County – accused of fraudulently purchasing thousands of dollars’ worth of designer handbags near New Orleans in the summer of 2022.

Reid is now suing in federal court, and he’s among many people of color who claim to have been falsely arrested because of facial recognition technology.

On Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Reid and his attorney, Gary Andrews of The Cochran Firm Atlanta, talk with show host Rose Scott about the case and the legal actions they are now taking against authorities.
