Assessing PFAS Removal Systems, a Look at the Technology Available | News

NEWPORT CITY – There are emerging technologies that remove the family of forever chemicals known as PFAS. Currently, New England Services (NEWSVT) is using two such technologies at the Casella landfill in Coventry. Terms of a 10 year solid waste permit required NEWSVT to assess several PFAS removal technologies and submit the findings to the Agency of Natural Resources. There has been some pushback on the technology the NEWSVT chose as their PFAS removal method. The European Union has been a proactive leader in PFAS removal and many of the technologies originated in Europe. The most ready to use technologies are membrane separation, anion exchange resins and activated carbon.
